Energy, airtime and passion: The streetboard world in Eindhoven

2024 was an exceptional year for everyone who loves streetboarding. For one weekend, the Area 51 skatepark in Eindhoven, Netherlands, was the center of a movement that is not only growing but also inspiring. Riders from all over the world traveled to compete in the largest international streetboarding competition – a showcase of innovation, progression, and pure community power.

Sergi took the crowning achievement. In the "Highest Air," Sergi took the title and managed to achieve the highest jump. Anyone who saw him live could sense that a true artist was rolling across the deck – with heart, experience, and hunger.

What makes streetboarding so unique

Now many people might be asking themselves what is the difference between a streetboard and a skateboard?

While on a skateboard the feet stand loosely on the board, on a streetboard they are fixed in loops.

This not only allows for maximum grip, but also makes tricks possible that would be unthinkable in classic skating – spins, transfers, even backflips.

The movement is achieved purely through body movement – ​​without any foot pushing. It feels like snowboarding on asphalt. Once you've experienced it, you'll usually stick with it. It's more than a sport. It's a feeling.

Streetboarding: A movement with history

Streetboarding has its roots in the early 1990s – born from the idea of ​​bringing the fluid freedom of snowboarding to asphalt. The first board of this type was developed in South Africa by two creative youngsters who wanted to create a completely new riding experience.

The original concept: two separate treads, connected by a movable middle section, combined with foot straps – this allowed propulsion simply by shifting your weight, without any pushing. This innovative board shape quickly spread throughout Europe and North America, finding its way into urban spaces, parks, and halfpipes.

Over time, not only did the equipment evolve – the community also grew. What once began as an experiment evolved into a discipline in its own right: streetboarding. Today, the term stands not only for the technique, but also for a scene, an attitude, and a sporty, creative lifestyle that clearly distinguishes itself from traditional boardsports.

Today, streetboarding is established worldwide – with its own contests, world championships, brands, riding styles, and a growing fan base. And what remains is the feeling: free, flowing, connected to the board – urban, creative, and absolutely unique.
